About / Start Here
Hey there!
I will add more information here about myself and the blog as time progresses. I have been waylaid by the fears of perception for too long so I am no longer waiting for things to be complete, concise, entirely coherent, or consistent. I'm aiming for all of those but right now I am just taking some shots. Target practice so to speak.
The name
George Bernard Shaw wrote: "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
This site is named for what that quote gets wrong. Progress has never come from pure unreasonableness — every significant advance has been a combination: unreasonable in some dimension, reasonable in others. And for every unreasonable idea that changed the world for the better, there are dozens to thousands that didn't, couldn't, or made things worse. We remember the outliers and build myths around them. Conviction is not evidence of being right.
So the writing here is an argument for the synthesis: knowing when unreasonableness is warranted, in which dimensions, and at what cost — explored through systems both natural and man-made, wherever the interplay of constraint and disruption is worth examining.
How this site is organized
Most publishing works on a "write privately until finished, then publish a polished artifact" model — which means most real thinking stays invisible. This site works differently: entries are published at lower thresholds and organized by state of thought, not publication date. Every entry carries one of four labels:
- Seed
Raw concepts, questions, fragments, tensions — worth capturing, not yet developed.
- Exploration
Partially developed essays, ongoing investigations, competing hypotheses.
- Revision
Evolving posts — visible changes in thinking over time, earlier versions acknowledged.
- Finished
Polished, relatively stable essays and frameworks.
An entry isn't failing to be finished — it's part of an evolving body of visible thought. Entries move between states as thinking develops, and earlier versions stay accessible so the evolution itself is readable.
Understandings
I'm not an expert in most of the domains this site touches. When an entry leans on a concept from neurochemistry, psychology, economics, or anywhere else outside my depth, the term links to an understanding — a short, honest snapshot of my current grasp of it, dated, and updated as that grasp deepens. It tells you what I mean by a term, not what the term officially means.
How to read this site
Take the state labels seriously. A Seed is a captured fragment, not a defended position. An Exploration is thinking in motion — it may contradict itself and that's the point. If you want the most stable version of what I think, start with Finished. If you want to watch the thinking happen, everything else is the more honest read.
